October 5, 2003Let me address something that's bothered me for some time. That issue is the overseas con artist attacks on Americans, simply due to the fact that they are "stupid Americans". Our knowledge on this subject started with an innocent stab at a reasonably priced laptop on an online auction site (I'll not name the one here, you probably are aware of the online auction sites yourself). We found what appeared to be a phenomenal deal on a laptop, purportedly NEW! Richard bid on the laptop, and got the winning bid. When contacting the seller, there were a few hurdles. First, the seller was overseas from America. OK. Fine. SO, the question was, "why is it so cheap?"... The seller explained that he worked for a company similar to Best Buy, BUT, it was in Amsterdam. He explained that the store had an excess of inventory from time to time, and he, as an employee of the store, could buy the excess at cost, then could resell on the internet for a nominal profit. He further explained his own economic position, with family, and why it was in his interests to bring in additional income in a country with little income. Obviously, there was a payment issue. This particular gentleman used a tactic that is now known to be widely used - that of the Western Union, verified payment method. Supposedly, this would guarantee that we would NOT lose our money, as it was tied to a verification process. Now, you KNOW I would not be writing this if it was a successful transaction, so, I'm writing it specifically to warn you. All transactions over the internet, even those that SEEM to be valid, are suspect. Personally? We are an honest group. We deliver what we sell, and we offer MUCH more free customer support than the average Joe. Just ask us for recommendations, we have them. Which brings me to thievery...Some people use software companies, such as ours, to obtain stolen goods by using a stolen credit card number, name, etc. So painful. Don't do that. It's hard on us. If you're really dying to steal from a stupid American corporation, go find one. We're just a hard-working, honest few people trying to make a living... Siegfried and Roy..We are having a very difficult time obtaining information on Roy, undoubtedly because the world is interested in his condition and hoping for some type recovery. We've chopped a message from Siegfried, and are posting it here, for those having the same issues reaching their site. We ask you to pray for Roy's recovery.
