At the end of this past March, I had all but 100% committed to homeschooling for Kristen this next year. The full committment continued until about mid-summer, when I started having second thoughts. My second thoughts also had second thoughts, and for awhile there, I didn't know WHAT to do. I still don't know what to do, but I do know what we *will* do. I'm one of those mom's who kept looking for the user's manual when my children were born, only to find after years, there apparently IS no such thing. I'm taking, by the way, this opportunity to post one of the photos I made at Kristen's 5th grade graduation (isn't she just a doll???).
Anyway, the summer started off great, both of us excited over the coming fall school year at home (I say both because Richard had his reservations from the get-go), but relaxing for a good bit to get over the previous school year. As the days crept on, I realized that the challenge of trying to act as a teacher instead of a combination mother/friend/witch to my daughter may be just a wee bit more than I could handle. My second thoughts are still having second thoughts, nonetheless, Kristen *will* enroll in public schools on Wednesday. We tried to get her into a private school, but the roster was already filled and the wait-list was a yard long. I'll keep you posted on whether I think the move was a good move or a bad move. Meanwhile, Back at the RanchRichard's pond got literally drenched during the past 2 days rainfall. The crystal clear water in the pond from the previous blog's post became muddied with the run-off from the "dry river bed" (aka - the way to drain rain water through the yard without utter devastation), but the fountain was still running fine. Richard has been out there working for a good few hours now - I peeked out and checked his progress awhile ago and he's drained it, so maybe there's no issue? Except, ummmmm - I'm seeing rain coming in again... wheeeeeeeeee..... |
